Breakpoint Podcast: Bringing Delight to Users

On this episode of the Breakpoint podcast, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Rahul to discuss my journey into product management, what drives me, and how I think about building products that truly delight users.

From Engineering to Product Management

My transition from engineering into product management wasn't a straightforward one. Like many PMs who come from technical backgrounds, I found myself increasingly drawn to the "why" behind the products I was building, not just the "how."

In the podcast, I discuss:

  • My background in engineering: How my technical experience shaped my approach to product management and gave me a deep appreciation for what's possible and what's hard.
  • The moment I decided to make the switch: What led me to make the move from engineering to product, and what I had to learn along the way.
  • My approach to product management: How I think about building products that users love, from discovery through delivery.
  • Bringing delight to users: What it means to truly delight users, going beyond meeting their needs to surprising and delighting them.

What Delight Means in Product

"Delight" is one of those words that gets thrown around a lot in product circles, but what does it actually mean in practice?

For me, delight comes from those moments when a product exceeds a user's expectations: when it anticipates a need they didn't even know they had, or when it removes a friction point they'd resigned themselves to living with.

Building those moments of delight requires:

  • Deep empathy with users
  • A relentless focus on the details
  • A willingness to go beyond the obvious solution
  • Cross-functional collaboration between design, engineering, and product

The Breakpoint Podcast

The Breakpoint podcast explores the stories of product managers and builders, diving deep into their experiences, learnings, and approaches. It's a fantastic resource for anyone interested in product management.

I'm grateful to Rahul for the opportunity to share my story and perspective. I hope it's useful to anyone who is thinking about transitioning into product management or looking to improve how they approach building products.
