Comfort vs Growth zone

Comfort-Vs-Growth-zone

As we go through life, we often find ourselves in situations where we become too comfortable. We get used to the routine and everything that comes with it. The idea of stepping out of our comfort zone can be daunting, but it’s necessary for growth and progress. This is where the concept of the “Comfort Zone” versus the “Growth Zone” comes in.

During the Christmas break in December 2019, I was scrolling through LinkedIn posts when I came across a post from a second-degree connection about this concept. The image below stuck with me and made me realize that I had personally moved through the first two zones and was currently in the third, seeking the next step.

In 2018, I made the toughest decision of my career by leaving my job at Atheon Analytics after six years. It was a place that felt like home, where I had grown and learned my career trade. However, I had to move out of my Comfort Zone in order to challenge myself and progress my career.

At Huddle, I was pushed to my limits as a Product Manager. I was thrown into the deep end early on in the job, which allowed me to come out of my Fear Zone. It wasn’t easy, but I turned my fears into motivators.

Over the last year(2019), I have been constantly working on solving challenges and problems (solving some and learning from others) as part of my day-to-day life while acquiring new skills. Without realizing it, I had entered the Learning Zone. I have been acquiring new information and knowledge, and putting these into practice has been the key to my growth.

“The noblest pleasure is the joy of understanding.”

Leonardo da Vinci

This quote speaks volumes about the importance of learning for growth. We must not limit ourselves to what we already know and what is familiar. We must be willing to step outside of our comfort zone and embrace change.

Which brings me to the purpose of this article. I don’t want my Comfort Zone to hold me back. Instead, I want to continue to pursue growth and progress in my career and personal life. I want to take on new challenges and push myself to my limits. By doing so, I know that I’ll continue to learn, grow, and thrive both personally and professionally.
